Creating a shell script to manage the IS service

Hello there,

Today a quick tip that can help to manage the IS if it is down.

To do that, just create a new file .sh with these lines:

output=`/opt/MicroStrategy/bin/mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer gs` #use your path

if [ `echo $output | grep -c “run” ` -gt 0 ]; then check=1; else check=0; fi
if [ $check -eq 0 ]; then
if [ `echo $output | grep -c “stopped” ` -gt 0 ] || [ `echo $output | grep -c “terminated” ` -gt 0 ]; then
/opt/MicroStrategy/bin/mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer start #use your path
fi
fi

Save the file and make sure to change it to an executable file:

chmod +x filename.sh

Where filename is the name that you used above.

Now, make sure to schedule it using crontab or other scheduler tool.

Hope it helps

God bless you

Disk Defragmentation in Windows – IS

Hello there!

Today let’s talk about a quick tip: Disk defragmentation for your Intelligence Server on Windows SO.

MicroStrategy recommends that you use the Defragmentation tool on Windows to remove the empty spaces that are created between stored data in your Intelligence Server machine.

Doing that, you can improve the performance of your system. So, periodically do a defrag to make your data continuously   and improve performance of IS.

defrag

You can use the default defragmentation tool that comes out of the box in Windows or use a third-party software.

I recommend do this defrag at night, because it makes your Windows SO decrease performance while running the defragmentation. I recommend a 15 days cycle, so, every 15 days, do a new defrag.

Hope it helps!

God bless you

iOS crashing Intelligence Server

Hello there!

Today I will talk about a serious problem that I had with MicroStrategy 9.3.1 and the later version of MicroStrategy 9.4.1 iOS update 4.

I was collecting statistics for mobile in every project that I had. So, the problem is the combination of MicroStrategy 9.3.1, MicroStrategy 9.4.1 iOS update 4 and Enterprise Manager collecting mobile statistics.

When any user using iPhone or iPad tried to connect to a project, MicroStrategy Intelligence Server crashed…

To solve this problem you have to update to MicroStrategy 9.4.1 or do a workaround.

Edit the project configuration of all projects that you have, go to statistics and uncheck mobile clients (mobile clients manipulations and mobile clients location).

Restart your Intelligence Server and it will be good!

Hope it helps!
